India's Semi-Conductor Laboratory (SCL) in Mohali is undergoing a major modernization with a Rs 2,000-crore government-funded plan to upgrade its 180 nm fabrication line. This is part of a broader Rs 76,000-crore semiconductor incentive scheme aimed at enhancing the country's chip production capabilities. The facelift will include new equipment, improved manufacturing processes, and a capacity boost by 50 to 100 times. SCL is also preparing to open its fab line for startups and reduce chip production cycle times, aligning with global semiconductor standards.
